My History
Hi, I’m Shawn James — owner and upholsterer at Southern Upholstery and Designs. I have over 18 years of experience in crafting custom automotive interiors.
My journey started with a two-year education in Electronics, which led me into the world of Mobile Electronics and Car Audio. I attended the Installer Institute in Daytona Beach, Florida. After gaining hands-on experience at several car audio shops, I discovered a passion for custom interiors.
I’ve worked with several custom car shops in Ohio and South Florida where I found myself fascinated by the craftsmanship of upholstery. I bought my first sewing machine, taught myself through relentless practice, and never looked back. I’m still pushing to perfect my craft — blending creativity, precision, and passion into every stitch.
